How Long Should We Diet?
We are all swamped with ads for the new weight loss systems, foods, pills, exercise DVD, books or diet plans such as the south beach diet. We have even heard from those diet gurus with their unusual diet tips. Each of them is going to teach us how to lose weight. The one thing you will surely noticed is that they all tend to use the same basic approach and that is they tell you that “If you try their product or program for a certain period of time you too will be able to lose weight and be slim and fit. You will even be able to wear the kinds of clothes that have been dreaming about wearing for a long time”. Now that kind of message will appeal to most persons who want to lose weight and be fit and healthy.
We are all not the same and what we need to consume in terms of nutrition will not be the same either. This and other things must be taken into account when we are considering how to lose weight and how we need to diet for. One important thing is know is our BMI.
Your diet has to do with what you eat and the amount you eat each day to provide you with nourishment. This fact basically answers the question how long should you diet for, it will be every day for the rest of your life. Yes every day, whether you are into eating healthy or want to lose weight you will have to keep your diet plan forever or else you will not maintain your goals once you have achieved them.
This is not to say that once you have lost the weight you want to that you must keep eating to lose weight. You will have to modify your diet plan a bit to accommodate and sustain your new weight. Here you will need to consume the required amounts of calories, proteins, carbohydrates and fats and not be too restrictive.
Remember that if you should go on a diet to lose weight then if you should stop dieting t is more than likely that you go back to the way you used to eat before you started dieting. Once this happens it is also likely that you will regain the weight you had lost. This is why you will always be on a diet because the risk of regaining the weight lost is far too great.
When you diet forever this by no way means that you will not be able to eat any of the foods you used to before you started dieting. What it does mean is that you can only consume small amounts ever now and then.
